Le président du Tchad, Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno, a réaffirmé avec force sa volonté de venir à bout de la menace terroriste. « Nous intensifierons notre combat avec une détermination inébranlable jusqu’à l’élimination complète de ce fléau », avait-il déclaré sur les réseaux sociaux quelques heures après l’assaut mené par un groupe affilié à Boko Haram contre une position stratégique située sur la rive tchadienne du lac Tchad. L’attaque, survenue la veille, a causé la perte de 24 militaires tchadiens, soulignant la virulence de cette organisation extrémiste.
